SYBSA Draft Procedures

SYBSA, a Little League (LL) affiliate, is required to use one of LL's approved draft procedures to create teams each spring.  Below are the two models that SYBSA utilizes to build our divisions.  SYBSA's employs LL's Plan B Draft Method to create Minor teams and above.   Divisions below minors are created using LL's Plan C Draft Method.  Below are the plan's details.

Little League Second Option -- Plan B Method (Minor Division and Above)
This draft takes place in two separate parts.

First part includes those players who are:

1. Returning from a team in the same division (i.e. Majors),  AND;
2. Have registered for the current season.

Second part of the draft includes:

1. All players who are eligible for selection and have attended the required number of player evaluations.

This first draft of returning players must be completed before the second part of the draft, and all returning players who qualify under both conditions above must be drafted.  Managers are not permitted to waive a draft choice.

Random double-blind drawing sets draft order with the winner of drawing receiving the first pick.  The order proceeds with the winner having the 1st, 8th, 9th, and 16th pick through the first four rounds in a four-team division.

Little League Third Option -- Plan C / Blind Draft Method (AAA Division and Below)
This method takes all available players and has them assigned numbers.  Numbers are then drawn randomly.  An example of this process for the Double A (AA) is as follows;

• Step 1: Determine the number of teams within the Division.
• Step 2: Assign Team Names & Managers
• Step 3: Place all registered and available 9-year-olds into a container.  Then each team draws a player from the container until all league age 9-year-olds are selected.
• Step 4: Place all registered and available 8-year-olds into a container.  Then each team draws a player from the container until all league age 8-year-olds are selected or until the team roster is full.
• Step 5: The same procedure for league age 6- and 7-year-olds.
